Privacy policy
What we collect, why, and how to refuse it. Last updated 7 September 2026.
Who we are
Merchant Kings of Africa is a browser game. This policy covers this website and the game client served from it.
What we collect
Three things, and only three.
Your account. To play, you create an account with an email address and a password. The email address is used to confirm the account and to let you reset your password. It is held by Amazon Cognito on our behalf. We do not sell it, and we do not send marketing to it.
Analytics, only if you agree. If you accept cookies, Google Analytics records how you arrived, which pages you read, and which parts of the game you reach. It is configured with IP anonymisation on, and with Google Signals and ad personalisation both switched off. If you refuse, none of it runs.
Messages you send us. If you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, your email address, the message, and the network address it came from. They are delivered to our mailbox and used only to answer you. They are kept for as long as the conversation is useful and then deleted. The form also asks your browser to solve a small puzzle before sending, which is how we keep spam out without using a third-party service; nothing about you is collected by that step.
Advertising
This website, and a banner beside the game's map, show advertising served by Google AdSense, which is how the game's servers are paid for. Ads never cover the map and never change how the game plays.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this website or to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a range of third-party vendors' personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. How Google uses data when you use a site that works with Google is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
On this site, advertising cookies are off until you accept them in the cookie banner. If you refuse, Google may still show ads, but they are not personalised and no advertising cookie is set.
Cookies and similar storage
| Purpose | Default | Can you refuse it |
|---|---|---|
| Keeping you signed in | On | No — without it you cannot stay signed in to play. It is set only after you sign in. |
| Remembering your cookie choice | On | No — this is the record of your answer, stored in your browser under mka-consent. |
| Analytics | Denied | Yes. Nothing runs until you accept. |
| Advertising | Denied | Yes. Nothing runs until you accept. |
We use Google Consent Mode v2. Before you answer, these four signals are all set to
denied:
analytics_storage,
ad_storage,
ad_user_data and
ad_personalization.
Accepting sets all four to granted. Refusing leaves them denied.
Your answer is kept in your browser, not against your account. Clearing site data, switching browser, or using a private window means you will be asked again — and it means your choice does not follow you to another device.
Who else sees your data
Amazon Web Services hosts the game, holds your account, and delivers contact-form messages to our mailbox. Google receives analytics data only if you accepted, and advertising data only if you accepted and we are showing advertising. Nobody else.
How long we keep it
Your account and its game data are kept while the account exists. Analytics data follows Google's own retention settings. Ask us to delete your account and we will delete it.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. You can withdraw your cookie consent at any time using the link below, and it takes effect immediately.
How to reach us
For any of the above, or any question about this policy: the contact form, or contact@merchantkingsofafrica.com.
Children
The game is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the cookie banner is shown again.
Change your cookie choice — reopens the banner so you can accept or refuse again.
